Negotiations to strengthen the enforcement of the Non-Proliferation Treaty were suspended after Iran raised objections. Iran claimed it “was capable of mass producing the machines used for enriching uranium.” The coun try’s former nuclear negotiator, an ally former President Rafsanjani, was arrested and may be tried for espionage.

“Lots of Pakistanis” have been killed or captured during fighting in Afghanistan’s Helmand province. Pakistani intelligence has stopped investigating 10 suicide attacks due to lack of evidence. The Islamabad city government has alotted 6 plots to rebuild mosques as demanded by the Lal Masjid.
Seven Taliban and 5 Afghan soldiers were killed after the Taliban attacked the convoy of the Czech charge d’affaires. Kandahar police killed 5 Taliban, while the Taliban beheaded a police officer. ISAF is building 3 patrol bases in Girshk district in Helmand province. The government will recruit 19,000 more police officers.
