Pakistan

The dismissal of the Chief Justice is causing serious unrest in Pakistan. Over 750 protesters and opposition leaders were arrested and 50 injured in protests in Rawalpindi and Lahore. Police stormed the offices of Geo TV and shut down the station.

Security forces arrested 39 members of Turkish al Qaeda. “The operation also turned up report cards from a school in Konya attended by the children of al Qaeda members that include a pledge ‘to Koran, to jihad, and to martyrdom.’”

Abdelfattah Raydi, the Internet cafe suicide bomber, served jail time for membership in an Islamist “militant group.” Moroccan intelligence indicated the western Sahara is infiltrated with al- Qaeda.


Lebanon

Fatah al-Islam, a Lebanon based al Qaeda offshoot led by Zarqawi associate Shakir al-Abssi, has 150 fighters and operates unhindered from Palestinian refugee camps. Lebanon claims Fatah Al Islam is Fatah Al Intifada, which is backed by Syrian intelligence.
