Pakistan will not extradite Rashid Rauf, one of the ringmasters of the London airline plot, to Britain. The government also will not hand AQ Khan over to any foreign government. Eleven suspected terrorists, including a Taliban leader linked to Baitullah, linked to the suicide bombings have been arrested in Sindh.


Somalia

Sheikh Sharif Ahmed, the ICU leader, has been released from Kenyan custody and is heading to Yemen. The Islamic Courts are believed to be regrouping in Saudi Arabia, Eritrea and Yemen. Islamists mortared the Mogadishu seaport. Three battalions of peacekeepers from Uganda and Nigeria will deploy shortly.

Lt. Gen. Raymond Odierno said he has proof the Iranians are supplying IED materials to Iraqi insurgents. Operations in Diyala in mid-January resulted in 100 insurgents killed and 54 detained. The number of troops deployed may actually double in the surge. Sixty-two were killed in a double suicide and mortar attacks.
