Philippine security forces killed one Abu Sayyaf terrorist and capture 7 during a raid on a safe house in Mindanao. The armed forces are reorganizing the hunt for Abu Sayyaf leader Khadaffy Janjalani on Jolo. The wife of Jemaah Islamiyah bomb expert Dulmatin will be deported in December.


Afghanistan

Mullah Dadullah said the Taliban attacks have slowed due to the onset of winter, and will intensify next summer. Seven Taliban were killed in Kandahar, and 11 terrorist were detained in Khost. One NATO soldier is killed and another wounded during a rocket attack in Ghazni.

The Russian Army is hunting new terrorist leader Doku Umarov, and is shelling a village on the Ingushetia – Chechen border for the third day in a row. Doku may be “seriously wounded.” Thirty-five of Doku’s fighters, “some in high ranking positions,” have surrendered.

Lebanon

The UN will send a team to Lebanon to investigate the assassination of Minister Gemayel. Syria will not cooperate with the Hariri assassination tribunal. Gunmen also opened fire on Minster Pharaon’s office on the day of Gemayel’s murder.


Palestinian Territories

Palestinian sources said Saudi Arabia has severed ties with Hamas (unconfirmed). A Fatah leader survived an assassination attempt. An Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades terrorist was killed when the IDF attempted to arrests an Islamic Jihad commander. Five Palestinians total were killed during fighting with the IDF.


Philippines

Abu Sayyaf and MILF are regrouping for attacks next year on commerce, security and infrastructure targets. Philippine security forces discovered “thermos jugs… stuffed with dynamite sticks, nitric acid and rigged with 4-inch nails… and lunch boxes… with similar explosives and ball bearings” during the hunt for Abu Sayyaf on Jolo.


Afghanistan

Taliban attacks have declined sharply over the past month, despite Mullah Omar’s claim the fighting will increase. The minister of defense will double the size of the Army over the next two years, to 70,000. NATO says about about 2,500 troops are needed. Germany will not allow its troops to fight in the south.


India

An explosion at an Assam train station killed 3 and wounded 10. Two suspected LeT operatives were arrested outside New Delhi “with explosives and a large amount of cash.” LeT cadres are being trained to target oil installations and other vital infrastructure remain at risk.


Iraq

The UN claimed Iraq deaths are highest since the war started, but the government disputed the claim. A bomb is detonated in the Green Zone, the target was the speaker of the Parliament. The ISF detains 28 suspects in Mahmudiyah.


Somalia

Ethiopian troops are patroling a road in Baidoa and have imposed a curfew in a town in central Somalia. A TFG Colonel defected to the ICU. A radio station near the Ethiopian border was closed after callers express opposition to the ICU. Khat kiosks in the Hiran region are shut down.
