US-Iraq negotiations amidst surge of violence

Al Jazeera covers US and Iraqi negotiations amidst Iraq's political crisis and a resumption of violence. Some 1,000 Iraqis were killed last month, mostly in a wave of countrywide bombings. July's toll is the worst since April 2008, and reflects the resurgence of al Qaeda in Iraq.

It makes me sick to my stomach thinking about how the Obama Administration blew up the SOFA and our post-transfer obligations to the Iraqi government and people through venal fecklessness and disinterest. After all that sacrifice, blood and treasure.

Begin with Bremer, then hop skip and jump to Obama.

Like bookends, with many dead Iraqis in the middle.

Everything the invasion accomplished, and then everything the Surge and Anbar Awakening accomplished, flushed into the sewer.
