Evidence of government attacks on civilians, mass graves in Syria
Images released by the US government implicate the Syrian government in attacks on civilians and the use of mass graves. From a Reuters slideshow:
A combination of satellite images of the town of Tall Daww, Haoula in Syria, shot by a DigitalGlobe satellite and annotated and released to Reuters by the U.S. government on June 1, 2012, shows a May 18, 2012 aerial photo of a square in Tall Daww (L) and the same square in an image (R) taken May 28, 2012. U.S. Government officials point to the dotted area in the May 28, 2012 image as showing ground that had been recently disturbed and refer to it as a probable mass burial site. The situation in Syria is complex. Jihadist cells, notably The Al Nusrah Front for the People of the Levant, have conducted several high-profile suicide attacks, and US government officials have stated that al Qaeda is operating in Syria. For their part, rebels with the Free Syrian Army have denied connections with bombings or radical Islamist militant groups, accusing the government of conducting false flag operations. The Syrian government has in turn attempted to blame most atrocities on insurgent groups, despite strong evidence implicating regime forces in attacking civilians. In addition, Iran has admitted sending troops to Syria to help suppress the rebellion.
