The first touchdown

The first KC-130J to land at Camp Dwyer in Helmand province, Afghanistan touches down on the new expeditionary airstrip on Aug. 27. Marines with Marine Wing Support Squadron 371 began construction on the runway on Aug. 9. The strip is made up of more than 4,000 pieces of AM-2 matting and measures more than 4,300 feet.
