Warning: the video above is graphic.
Yesterday, the Pakistani Taliban released video of the execution of Colonel Imam, a former officer in Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence directorate. Hakeemullah Mehsud, the leader of the Movement of the Taliban in Pakistan, is seen on the video, directing the execution. The Long War Journal has obtained footage of a portion of the video. The portion where Colonel Imam is shot by one of Hakeemullah’s assassins is blurred.
Pakistani officials have recovered Imam’s body, which was dumped on the streets of the Taliban and al Qaeda stronghold of Mir Ali in North Waziristan.
See LWJ report Hakeemullah Mehsud alive, shown on tape executing former ISI officer, and Threat Matrix report, Who is Colonel Imam? for more information.

There’s a good article in The News (Pakistan), published Feb. 21, 2011, that provides a lot of detail behind Col. Imam’s execution (reasons for it) and the role of Hakeemullah Mehsud. http://www.thenews.com.pk/TodaysPrintDetail.aspx?ID=32165&Cat=6&dt=2/21/2011
1.If Hakeemullah is owing allegiance to Mullah Omar, then why he did not obey his command about Col Imam?
2.Col Imam is a decorated officer of ISI by President Reagan and it is rumoured that he was carrying the message from ISI and CIA that “talk ill of Israel, America but kill only Indians who are idolators” Is it true?
Strong suspision its related to attempt to pressure ISI to stop drones in N Waziristan.
And the Davis diplomat case, Your thoughts Bill?

Where did Hakimullah get that Australian rifle?
The rifle that Haki takes from the assassin just before Imam is shot (with a pistol) is a Steyr AUG. Those are used in small numbers by several branches of the Pakistani military and intelligence.
Stolen, given freely, or actual ISI member doing the shooting?

@Render, good pickup. Benazir Bhutto’s assassin also used a Steyr…
“The weapon used to kill Bhutto was a Steyr 9mm handgun, issued only to Pakistan Army Special Forces”

If we are lucky, Hamid Gul may take it upon himself to visit North Waziristan to seek revenge for the killing of his good friend, Col. Imam.
The only difference between this execution and that of Gary Gilmore is that these executioners are as loathsome as their victim, and will soon die in just as bloody a manner! And the world will celebrate their demise.
I find the manner of this specific execution interesting. Not in a morbid, cult-following curiosity.. Given the TTPs brutal executions, why was Col. Imam spared from decapitation with a dull blade or being wrapped in DET cord while blindfolded?
I’m sure a lot of anti-Coalition militias spray their convicted “spies” with rusty 7.62x29mm, but who dictates the overall process?
This is a silly observation given what transpired on the video but it seems Col. Imam’s beard was quite a bit whiter than it was in photos taken even last year.
@Arniefufkin, “good” Muslims emulate their prophet by dyeing their beards red (generally through the use of henna). He wasn’t able to dye it while in captivity.
I have read that Colonel Imam visited the White House under Bush Sr. Is this true?
Very very sad for me… for me he was not a spy and Illiterate taliban killed him
